A high quality floor cloth (sewing cloth) from 100% cotton - may be decorated with yarn sewn through the loops/stitches. It should not be washed.

. This floor cloth for sewing has (if you do not wash it) a weave with raised loops/stitches which are easy for young children to push a cross stitch needle threaded with yarn through.

Start in the topright corner of the cloth. Double the yarn over once threaded onto the cross stitch needle and tie a knot at the end for example around the first loop.

This prevents the child from pulling the yarn off the needle. Now you can push the threaded needle through the loops horizontally back and forth forming a striped pattern.

We recommend choosing smooth cotton yarn as it is easier for the child to work with. Another variant: Thread for example a bead (with a large hole) onto the yarn between the loops as an extra effect for the more experienced child.
